The Danish Ministry of Defence (ministerial department) deals with a wide range of functions and assignments - from serving the Danish Minister of Defence to the overall management of our agencies.

History of the Ministry

Denmark has a long tradition for management and control of the armed forces. The organisation and denomination have changed several times over the years.

Permanent Secretary

The Permanent Secretary of State for Defence is the highest-ranking employee and administrative head of the minister’s combine. The Permanent Secretary of State for Defence also serves as advisor to the minister of defence.

Defence attachés and military advisers

The mission of the defence attachés and advisers is to serve as the eyes and ears of both the Danish Ministry of Defence as well as the Danish Defence Command in a given country or organisation.
