The meeting between the two defense ministers emphasizes Denmark's close collaboration with the United States. The defense ministers, Lloyd J. Austin III and Morten Bødskov, are meeting in Washington to discuss the strengthened Danish-American defense- and security policy collaboration.

Several initiatives are already underway. Among others, a new NATO hub in the Port of Esbjerg and strengthened joint training exercises like the HIMARS exercise on Bornholm earlier in the year.

The close collaboration has recently come to the forefront concerning Ukraine. Regarding international support to Ukraine, the United States has once again shown the continued importance and relevance of its presence and engagement on the European continent.

Moreover, the meeting signals close collaboration with the United States regarding the security situation in the Baltic Sea, including Finland and Sweden's application for NATO membership.

Minister of Defense, Morten Bødskov, states:

"Denmark is a close friend and ally of the United States. Danish and American soldiers have fought shoulder by shoulder for the joint cause and our shared values. We have both been prepared to pay the highest price in fighting for our security and a more just world. I look forward to, in the nearest future, starting new chapters in the close collaboration that generations before us has created. This will strengthen the collaboration between Denmark and the United States regarding defense- and security policy."
