With the 23rd donation package Denmark will finance 2.1 billion DKK in order to strengthen the Ukrainian air defence which will be donated through Denmark’s international partners. Furthermore, the package will include a financial contribution to the upkeep of the Ukrainian F-16 capacity. The Government informed the Foreign Policy Committee at a meeting today.
“One of Ukraine’s most urgent needs is to be able to defend itself against Russian missiles and drones. Therefore, we have prioritized more support for air defence. The package also includes a financial contribution for the upkeep of the Ukrainian fighter aircraft capacity for which Denmark has contributed significantly- in terms of F-16 fighter aircrafts and training of personnel”,says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
Furthermore, Denmark and Sweden are making a joint donation of a further number of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. Denmark will also contribute with personnel to NATO´s assistance to Ukraine as well as extend the funding for the Danish personnel in EU´s military support mission for Ukraine.
“Russia spares no efforts in its illegal war. This is underlined by the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy systems which focuses on pressuring the Ukrainian citizens in the cold winter months. It is inhuman. It makes it even more important that Europe and Denmark continues with the support to Ukraine – especially the Ukrainian air defence. Ukraine needs to have the best prerequisites”,says Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
The package has a total value of 2.1 billion DKK and is financed by reallocation of funds from the Ukraine Fund in 2024, as well as reimbursements from the European Peace Facility. Besides the reallocated funds there will also be non-utilized funds from the Finance Act from 2024 containing 275 million DKK, which will strengthen the financial contribution to Ukraine’s fighter aircraft capacity.
The funding for the Ukraine Fund is fully utilized with the donations package XXIII.
