Agreements and Economy

In June 2023, the Danish Government and a broad majority of the Danish Parliament agreed on a historic defence agreement. The agreement entails the overall financial framework and political guidelines for the next 10 years. Specific capabilities and initiatives will be negotiated by the Government and the political parties in partial agreements during the ten year period, starting in the fall 2023.

There is no unequivocal definition of what constitutes ”Danish defence policy”. However, it is generally accepted, that Danish defence policy aims at defending and promoting Danish interests. Danish Defence Policy shapes the framework and conditions upon which the armed forces contribute to peace and security, enforce Danish sovereignty, and support Danish foreign and security policy.

The total budget amounts to 36.2 billion DKK in 2024 according to the Danish Finance Act.

In recent times there has been Defence Commission in 1988, 1997 and most recently in 2008.
