Research on defence and security policy
Defence and security policy research can help to stimulate public debate, inform political considerations and thus influence the way in which nations conduct defence policy. Several institutes, educational establishments and universities in Denmark are dealing with defence and security policy research.
The Ministry of Defence funds part of this research through the defence budget. However, the research is conducted independently and the conclusions do not necessarily reflect the views of the Ministry of Defence.
The Royal Danish Defence College
The Royal Danish Defence College is the Danish Armed Forces’ centre for military science. The research contributes to accomplishing the mission of the Danish Armed Forces and focuses primarily on core areas like military operations, strategy, military history, international security, and defence policy.

The Danish Institute for International Studies
Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) and the Ministry of Defence cooperate on a number of defence and security policy studies. Areas of interest are identified in collaboration, but the research itself is completely independent.

The Centre for Military Studies (CMS)
The Ministry of Defence has engaged in cooperation with the University of Copenhagen regarding the establishment of the Centre for Military Studies (CMS), which is based at the Department of Political Science under the Faculty of Social Sciences. CMS is conducting independent strategic research and supply the Ministry of Defence and the Parties to the Defence Agreement with analyses, education and seminars.
